- Get Your Admission Today XThe word kimono means a "thing to wear." Join Takako Watanabe Elting and learn about the traditional Japanese garment, the kimono. She will also demonstrate how wear the kimono and tie the obi.
Included with Lan Su membership or admission; no registration is required.
Takako Watanabe Elting is from a small island in Kagawa prefecture in Japan. She moved to the United States in August 2011. She learned about kimono at Marikoji Style in Kyoto and became a certified kimono instructor and started working as a kimono specialist.
She teaches a kimono dressing class in Beaverton, Oregon and is the founder of the Portland Kimono Club. Portland Kimono Club is a community of Japanese women in the Portland area with an interest in the Kimono. Portland Kimono Club has regular activities including wearing a kimono and attending and volunteering at social events.
Takako recently started a new kimono community called Enjoy Kimono Portland open to anybody with an interest in the kimono and Japanese culture.
