Saturday, October 7—Totem Tea

Totem Tea is an online tea and incense company based in Portland, Oregon. Totem Tea sells exceptional tea and incense from Taiwan, China, and Japan; specializing in tea and incense that are both original and traditional. Come join our Artisan Tea Crafting activity to explore traditional tea preparation techniques while sampling delicious oolongs. Participants will help sort leaves and separate stems from a 2016 Anxi Tie Guan Yin oolong, and will get to take home the tea they create. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about and taste several different, exceptional oolongs.

For over 15 years Phillip Sauerbeck has been a passionate advocate for tea and the reflective lifestyle that tea culture supports. He has studied tea harvesting, production, preparation, and traditional tea ceremony in China and Japan. He started Totem Tea as a place where he could sell teas that he was excited to be drinking.

Saturday, October 14—Young Mountain Tea

Take a tea tour of the Indian subcontinent, making stops at the famous tea regions like Darjeeling and tasting tea from upcoming gardens in Nepal and Kumaon. Along the way, dive deep into the origin of each tea, exploring the history and context that leads to the leaves in our cup.

Young Mountain Tea began with a promise - if remote Himalayan communities would grow tea, they'd setup a company in the US to sell it. Their mission is to bridge the gap between the people who make tea and the people who drink it. In addition to offering organic teas direct from the producers, they organize guided trips to the mountains of India and Nepal. Young Mountain Tea recently launched the Global Tea Exchange, a cultural exchange program to connect their Himalayan partners to the US. Learn more about their new initiative here.

Raj Vable started Young Mountain Tea while in N. India on a Fulbright Fellowship, when he was working to create livelihoods for remote Himalayan communities. He moved back to Oregon, teamed up with friends and started Young Mountain Tea. Prior to tea, Raj spent seven years working on renewable energy projects in rural India. He holds an MS in Environmental Studies from the U. Oregon and a BS in Electrical Engineering from U. Michigan. He loves spending time in the mountains, playing ultimate frisbee, guitar, and swimming in the ocean.

Saturday, October 21—Plum Deluxe

Plum Deluxe will be sampling three of their organic, hand-blended teas, thoughtfully chosen especially for Lan Su. Enjoy a hot cup of tea while engaging in encouraging, mindful conversation amidst the peace of the garden.

Hand-blended in small batches at their studio in Portland, Oregon, Plum Deluxe teas help you slow down for a mindful moment and discover something magical. All tea blends are organic, non-gmo, and free of chemicals and sulfites; Plum Deluxe supports local and USA farmers wherever possible and runs an active philanthropy program. Plum Deluxe was founded by entrepreneur Andy Hayes as a tribute to his mother, who lost a brave 6-year battle with breast cancer but never forgot to enjoy “the little things” in life.
