Watch as artist Zhao Ze Ming demonstrates traditional Chinese landscape art techniques.
The style of traditional Chinese landscape art is called “Shan Shui” in Chinese. It literally translates "mountain-water” and refers to a style of traditional Chinese painting of natural landscapes. When Chinese artists work on a Shan Shui painting, they do not try to recreate an image of what they have seen in nature, but rather what they have thought about nature. The intent is to capture an awareness of inner reality and wholeness, as though the painting flows directly from the artist’s mind. In this demonstration, Mr. Zhao will show the traditional skills he uses to create Chinese landscape art.
